Lake Harriet Spiritual Community
A Center for Conscious Living

Youth Program

Lake Harriet Spiritual Community is proud to announce it's new Sunday Morning Youth Program starting in January 2012!  The non-dogmatic program is for kids from infant stage to under 11 years old and takes place on Sundays from 10:30am-11:30am, the same time that the Celebration Service is taking place in the Sanctuary.

The curriculum was designed by a committee consisting of the LHSC Spiritual Director, a Dean of a highly-respected charter elementary school, and a professional Transpersonal Psychologist who specializes in working with children.  It is designed to be fun and engaging while helping our children develop into conscious, life-affirming global citizens.  Below are the themes that will be covered:

January:  The Self: Learning to Know Ourselves

Who am I?  Who is my family?  What are my thoughts and feelings about myself?  What are my gifts, strengths and talents?  Things that I love to do often point to our strengths.  What do I love to do?

February:  Values

Describe values, shifting from things to people.  I value the Earth.  What can we do to promote sustainability?  I value the feelings of Self and Others.  What do I value?

March:  Communication
How do I communicate? How do I listen?  How do I express myself through art, music and/or writing?  Tell the story of my life.

April:  Home, Soul and Mother Earth
Where is my home?  What makes me comfortable?  Where do others live?  Where are the homes of animals on Earth and sea?  Where is our home in the galaxy?

May:  Children and Creativity
Look at what makes me happy.  Look at children of animals.  How do they get taken care of?  Creativity: what is it?  Complete book of Self.

June:  Work and Play
What is my work as a child?  What is my play?  What do my parents do for a living?  What do I want to do when I grow up?  What is fun for me?

July:  Relationships: Looking at Connections
What and what supports me?  Look at nature as a system of connection and wholeness.  Look at our responsibility of how to be a good friend.

August:  What is God?
Focus on Life, Goodness and What is God to me?

September:  Countries/Cultures of the World
In what ways are people the same and different?  Take a trip around the world.

October:  Careers
What are my interests?  What do people do for a living that helps the world?  Who do I know?  How do we serve?

November:  What is My Journey?
Make a journey stick.  What would walking in someone else's moccasin's be like?

December:  Dreams and Goals
What are my dreams?  What is my vision for the planet in the future?

We hope to see you and your children at LHSC soon!
